Best kind of dog clippers for springer spaniel?

After seeing how expensive it is to have the dog groomed by a professional groomer (I was stunned to hear it cost around £60 to start and then about £40 for follow-ups), I've decided to learn how to groom my English Springer Spaniel.

I started with scissors and she looks fine, but would like to invest in some clippers. I like her fur long-ish.

What make would you recommend, and is cordless best or non-cordless?

I know there are some very expensive makes out there (Oster?), but I'd like to spend under £50 if possible - even £20 if they are out there and are safe for that price. Is Wahl ok? How about an 'unknown' brand, like a cheaper set offering what looks like on the surface a similar product?

I have the Wahl pet set from Argos - cehap and cheerful but they seem to do the job!! They have guards that let you easily clip to different lengths.
